NIAMEY — Bilateral trade between China and Niger reached $318 million in 2014, up 59 percent from 2013, according to the Chinese Ambassador to Niger Shi Hu.
The figures were revealed on Aug 26 in Niamey during the signing of two economic and technical cooperation agreements between the two — a grant of 150 million yuan (about $23.5 million) and an interest free loan of 100 million yuan (about $15.6 million).
More than 30 Chinese companies are operating in the country, employing over 6,000 local people, the ambassador said.
At present, China-Niger cooperation covers areas including politics, economy, energy, culture, security and infrastructure.
