China, US to hold meeting on anti-drug cooperation

BEIJING — China and the United States will hold an anti-drug cooperation meeting in Beijing next week, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang on Oct 27.

During their first law enforcement and cybersecurity dialogue earlier this month, the two countries made great progress in cementing anti-drug cooperation, according to Geng.

Recently, the two sides successfully cracked down on several cross-border drug cases, he said.

Geng said China attached importance to joint cooperation on illegal drugs. China has listed 23 kinds of fentanyl substance as controlled drugs, more than the number listed in UN anti-drug conventions.

“China has cooperated with other countries including the United States within the frameworks of the three UN Conventions on drug control and China’s domestic law,” Geng added.

During the 60th Session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs held in Vienna in March, China supported scheduling two precursors of fentanyl — ANPP and NPP — under international control, Geng said, adding that China was working on relevant matters in accordance with domestic procedures.
