WUHAN — Two cities in Central China's Hubei province are seeking to establish sister-city ties with Uruguayan counterparts, according to the Hubei provincial foreign affairs office on May 27.

Yichang and the provincial capital Wuhan submitted letters of intent to establish friendly relations with Rivera and Salto respectively on May 26 during the province's Uruguay Week that started in Wuhan on May 24.

Building friendly relations will help Hubei better understand South America and carry out more business activities between cities in the future, said Fernando Lugris, the Uruguayan ambassador to China during the festivities.

The Uruguay Week included a film festival, a food festival, and a series of commercial, educational and cultural exchange events, according to the ambassador.

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Uruguay.
