Tourism contributes more than 10% to China’s GDP in 2015

Worth 4 trillion yuan ($613.6 billion) in 2015, China’s tourism industry contributed more than 10 percent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), surpassing the contribution rate of sectors such as education, banking and the automobile industry, the World Travel and Tourism Council estimated.

Data from the China National Tourism Administration also showed that China’s domestic travel logged more than 4 billion visits, while outbound tourist visits reached 120 million last year, and employment in the sector accounted for 10.2 percent of the country’s total employment.

Domestic travels, outbound tourist visits, domestic tourism consumption and outbound tourism consumption all ranked at the top in the world.
