With a total of 1,882 entrepreneurs, experts and government heads coming from more than 100 countries and regions, participants for the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin attained a historic peak on Aug 28.

Themed “Creating Value Through Innovation”, the key words for the 2014 Tianjin Summer Davos Forum are transformation, innovation, sustainable development and competitiveness among countries and regions in global collaboration.

To meet sustainable and environmentally friendly standards, the “New Champions’ Village” site in Tianjin Meijiang International Convention and Exhibition Center, the venue for the forum, was designed from a low-carbon perspective; and the number of volunteers was cut to 890 from 2,200.

Picked from over 30,000 applicants, 890 volunteers have been assigned to serve visitors from around the world in venues, transport hubs and public service booths.

Dressed in white and blue uniforms, volunteers started their service on Aug 26, showing off the vitality and hospitality of the host city.

The World Economic Forum is a Geneva-based nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging political, business, academic and other leaders in collaborative efforts to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

In addition to the annual winter meeting in Davos, Switzerland, it also organizes the summer Davos in China each year.

Since the first Summer Davos meeting, or the annual meeting of the New Champions in 2007, the port cities of Dalian and Tianjin have taken turns in hosting the event.
