BEIJING — China’s top observatory on Sept 28 renewed an alert for approaching super typhoon Dujuan, which will bring gales and rainstorms to southeastern regions in the next few days.

Dujuan, the 21st typhoon of the year, will land in Taiwan on the afternoon of Sept 28 and the coastal province of Fujian on the morning of Sept 29, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.

The typhoon will bring gales and storms to some parts of Taiwan, Fujian and neighboring Zhejiang province in the next two days, prompting the NMC to renew an orange alert for the typhoon.

Waves of up to 4 to 7 meters along coastal areas are expected, posing a danger to offshore activities, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters warned

With speeds of 15 to 20 km per hour, Dujuan is currently approaching the coast of northeastern Taiwan and a landfall is expected on Sept 28 with maximum sustained winds of 48 to 50 meters per second, a typical characteristic of super typhoon.

It will land in coastal Fujian on Sept 29, bringing with it gales and heavy rain, the headquarters said.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

The NMC advised local authorities to take precautions against the typhoon and prepare for possible floods and geological disasters. Residents in affected regions should alter their travel schedules based on latest forecasts.

After landing in Fujian, the super typhoon will weaken rapidly and be downgraded to a tropical depression after reaching Jiangxi province on the night of Sept 29, the center said.
