The General Administration of Sport recently issued measures on building county-level fitness centers.

According to the measures, fitness centers managed by county governments will be built with various body-building venues and facilities with the support of the Administration’s public welfare fund.

The budget of each center should not exceed 8 million yuan ($1.2 million) and the gross area should be 2,000 to 4,000 square meters, with at least 1,500 square meters of indoor body-building space for ball games and physical training, the measures state.

In addition, special support should be offered to old revolutionary areas, minority regions, poverty-stricken areas and regions cared for by central government policies.

The measures require that fitness center projects should follow laws and regulations and be supervised by related departments and third parties, and their construction should be completed by the end of the second year after approval.
