The CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Aug 22 congratulated the Chinese Olympic delegation on the outstanding performance of Chinese athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.

China won a total of 70 medals: 26 golds, 18 silvers and 26 bronzes.

“The Chinese people are immensely proud of the Chinese team for your outstanding performance at the Olympics this year as well as for your patriotism, collectivism and indomitable spirit,” according to the congratulatory message.

The Chinese team met people’s expectation and won respect with their Olympic spirit and sportsmanship.

Team China has shown the world the positive side of modern China with their excellence in sports skills and good manners, including respect for opponents, referees, audiences and rules, the message said.

Chinese athletes are called upon to use their Olympic spirit to further stimulate the public’s passion for sports activities and popularize sports across the country, promoting the concept of fitness nationwide.
