Highlights of foreign congratulatory messages on PRC's 70th founding anniversary (15)

BEIJING — Leaders of foreign countries and international organizations have sent congratulatory messages to President Xi Jinping to convey their best wishes on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

The following is an edited summary of some of these messages.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that the European Union (EU) and China boast lasting and close ties and that both sides are expected to maintain positive relations and push forward the EU-China agenda for cooperation.

Swiss Confederation President Ueli Maurer said he deeply believes the Switzerland-China innovative strategic partnership will see further development and wishes China and the Chinese people a bright future.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said Poland is willing to further deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

Hungarian President Janos Ader said Hungary feels honored for the fruitful achievements in cooperation with China, and that the Hungarian side will continue to play a substantial role in forging cooperation between China the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said he believes the Romania-China comprehensive partnership of friendship and cooperation will continue to make progress.

Colombian President Ivan Duque Marquez said he admires the remarkable economic and social achievements China has scored since 1949 and believes that China, under Xi's leadership, will keep moving forward and set an admirable example for the world.

Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado said China's growth has become an example for the world, and that Costa Rica is happy to be China's partner in Latin America in a wide range of issues. He also expressed hope that Costa Rica-China relations will strengthen in the future.

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele said his country reiterated its willingness to further promote mutual understanding with China, and he wishes China prosperity.

Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia Ban Ki-moon said China has made incomparable achievements over the past 70 years from succeeding in providing enough food and clothing for its people, in building a moderately prosperous society, to striving to wipe out absolute poverty by 2020.

He also said that China, under Xi's leadership, is marching towards becoming a strong and modernized country.

Cornel Feruta, acting director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said he highly appreciates China's leading role in promoting peace, development and nuclear non-proliferation, and expects to join hands with Xi and the Chinese government in building a more peaceful and safer world.
