BEIJING — China has accelerated the return of migrant workers to work and the restoration of poverty alleviation projects amid the battle against poverty and the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
As of April 10, some 23.53 million impoverished migrant workers from 25 provincial-level regions had returned to their workplaces, rising roughly 9.33 million from the reading registered on March 6, according to the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development.
Around 2.39 million workers from 52 poor counties had returned to work, the authority added.
More than 95 percent of leading poverty alleviation enterprises and workshops had resumed production, the authority noted, adding that most poverty alleviation projects in central and western China had restarted work.
Aiming at realizing the goal of poverty elimination, the country is making headway in establishing a mechanism to prevent people from falling back into poverty and provide targeted assistance, the authority said.
