2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Tibet autonomous region. Over the past decades, the region’s art and culture have thrived. So to celebrate this special occasion, local artists are doing what they do best.

An artist has been striving to keep the tradition alive for more than 20 years. He says it is an essential part of his life, and hopes to share it with a wider audience when he brings his work to an art exhibition in Beijing this week.

“I really look forward to the exhibition. It’s a great platform to showcase our traditional art. I hope one day I can bring it to the whole world,” the artist said.

The Tibet autonomous region is also famous for its performing arts. The Lhasa Song and Dance Ensemble is busy preparing their upcoming shows commemorating the region’s 50th anniversary.

“We will perform in local communities, schools and more. Through the performances, we intend to spread positive energy among the people, while they enjoy the show,” a performer said.

A group of calligraphy artists are also bringing their craft to villages. Using both Chinese and Tibetan characters, their works offer best wishes to the people of the Tibet autonomous region.

Art and culture have been thriving in the region for the past 50 years. And with so many artists from across the region and across different disciplines continuing to hone and share their skills, it is sure to prosper for many more years to come.
