Chinese Terminology: New Era

In a report delivered at the opening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said China’s development has entered a “new era.”

So why is this a “new era”? That’s because China has achieved a tremendous transformation – it has stood up, grown rich, and become strong. As socialism with Chinese characteristics has been developing over the years, the CPC is now charting a new historic direction for the development of China, which will both inherit the past and forge ahead into the future.

In this “new era”, the principal contradiction facing the Chinese society has also evolved, and what China faces now is the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life. That indicates the country will not only continue its economic development but also pay more attention to its social development.

As China moves into this “new era” of development and modernization, it will offer the world a Chinese approach to solving the problems facing humanity.
