After completing a 72-hour trial run, Unit 11 of China's Baihetan Hydropower Station commenced commercial operations on Nov 2, according to the China Three Gorges Corporation.
It is the 14th 100-million-kilowatt (kW) unit in operation at the station, with a maximum load of 110 million kW during the trial run, surpassing its designed capacity.
Once fully operational, the station, which straddles the southwestern provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, will become the second largest of its kind after the Three Gorges Dam.
