The State Council on June 12 approved the establishment of a joint inter-ministerial conference system aimed at promoting standardization, as requested by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The mechanism will involve coordinating standardization-related affairs across the nation, according to a statement released by the State Council.

It will allow relevant authorities to put forward major policies that facilitate the reform of the standardization process, and coordinate and solve problems during this reform.

It will also promote coordination between departments concerning the formulation and implementation of major controversial standards covering various areas, and allow authorities to decide which standards should be submitted to the State Council for approval.

The conference system, led by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, will involve 39 departments and institutions.
