The State Council announced on June 24 that it has set up a group to lead China’s strategy to become a world manufacturing power.
The leading group’s task is to review — and push the implementation of — major plans, policies and projects concerning the manufacturing industry, and to instruct and coordinate work carried out in China’s various regions and in various departments concerning the government’s strategy.
Vice-Premier Ma Kai is the head of the group. Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei — and four senior officials of other ministries — are deputy group heads.
The group will be based in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The decision came a month after the release of the “Made in China 2025” plan, which aims to transform China from a manufacturing giant into a world manufacturing power.
