The State Council issued a circular on the plan to build demonstration zones nationwide in an effort to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

According to the circular, local governments should formulate their own plans on sustainable growth based on the 2030 Agenda, with enhanced efforts to clarify the technical roadmap in tackling major restrictions.

Meanwhile, the government should also support innovation on new technologies and products to form new industrial patterns at the higher end of the industrial chain.

Practical experiences and solutions gained in the building of demonstration zones should be promoted to regions with similar conditions.

At the same time, China’s solutions on sustainable development should be introduced to the world through the Belt and Road Initiative and other national strategies.

Areas that intend to apply for demonstration zones should have completed effective work in sustainable development with typical restrictions on local growth.

The circular also called for more policy support to garner funds from enterprises, private capital and governments, allowing market players to join key national scientific projects and application of technologies in demonstration zones.
