The State Council decided to launch a major inspection on the quantity and quality of the national strategic grain storage in order to prevent risks and safeguard state grain reserves, according to a notice issued on July 23.
The inspection will cover strategic grains stored by corporations and the commodity grains of those corporations. Strategic grains include state grain reserves, grains with minimum purchase price and national temporary grain reserves, among others.
Quantity, variety, and ownership of the grains, as well as their quality and safety indexes, will be checked.
Corporations that store strategic grains are asked to check the grains themselves by April 2019. Then, general investigations and spot checks will be launched by local and central governments, respectively. Sinograin will also take part in the checks.
By the end of October 2019, State Council departments involved in the checks should submit a summary report to the State Council.
Pilot checks will be finished by January 2019 in 10 provinces, whistle-blowing in the checks should be given great attention and wrongdoings should be reported on a timely basis, according to the notice.
