On Jan 4, the State Council approved the General Administration of Sport and Ministry of Finance’s request to make Shaanxi province the host of the 14th National Games in 2021.

The State Council requires Shaanxi’s provincial government to make preparations for the games with care and efficiency in accordance with local economic and social development, according to the statement from the State Council.

Stadium facility costs will be covered by the provincial government. In addition to its self-raised budget, the provincial government will receive a subsidy from the central government, the State Council said.

The National Games, the country’s mini-Olympics, were first held in 1959.
