Premier attends closing ceremony of horticultural exhibition

Premier Li Keqiang attended and delivered a speech at the closing ceremony of the 2019 International Horticultural Exhibition on Oct 9 at Yanqing district, Beijing.

Premier Li Keqiang, together with Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan, Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, Kyrgyzstan's First Vice-Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov, Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Hajibala Abutalybov and other foreign leaders entered the ceremony venue just after 7:30 pm.

Premier Li congratulated the exhibition’s success on behalf of the Chinese government and people and extended gratitude to the countries joining and supporting the exhibition.

Themed Live Green, Live Better, the exhibition enhanced cultural communications, people-to-people exchanges and green cooperation among countries, said the Premier.

It demonstrated applications of green technologies and allowed tourists from home and abroad to see the symbiotic relationship between environmental protection and development, as well as the harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature, said the Premier.

With the painstaking efforts made by the Chinese people over the past 70 years since the establishment of the People's Republic of China, China has seen remarkable achievements in social and economic development and historic progress in environmentalism, Premier Li said.

As the world's largest developing country, China will continue to focus on economic development and environmental protection, said the Premier.

China will promote green growth, advance energy conservation and environmental protection industries and the circular economy, and promote green and low-carbon consumption, said the Premier.

China will resolutely fight the battle against pollution and promote projects on environmental improvement and key ecosystem protection and restoration, to provide people with a beautiful and livable environment, said the Premier.

China will enhance green cooperation, support multilateralism, uphold the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, and implement the Paris Agreement on climate change, to promote harmonious development between human and nature, said the Premier.

Secretary-general of the Bureau of International Expositions Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales and president of the International Association of Horticultural Producers Bernard Oosterom addressed the closing ceremony.

They hailed China’s environmental work and the Beautiful China initiative, and expressed their confidence in achieving green, low-carbon and sustainable development across the world under multiple parties’ efforts.

Premier Li and the foreign guests watched art performances at the closing ceremony.

The ceremony was hosted by Hu Chunhua.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi and Xiao Jie attended the event.
