Premier Li Keqiang met with Henry Paulson, former US treasury secretary, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Oct 23.
Premier Li said that under the current complicated international situation, China will remain resolute in expanding opening-up and taking the path of peaceful development, and is willing to promote global peace, development and cooperation with other countries, including the United States.
Following agreements reached by leaders of the two countries, they should control disputes on the basis of equality and mutual respect while adhering to the principles of coordination, cooperation and stabilization, to achieve win-win results. This will not only benefit the two countries, but also the whole world, the Premier said.
The Premier said he hoped the Paulson Institute will continue to play a positive role in the development of Sino-US relations and people-to-people exchanges.
Paulson said that the Sino-US relations are now at a crucial moment, and this year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Both countries and the world have changed, so the two should find a new way to manage their relations.
He said he expected China and the United States to develop bilateral economic and trade relations and bring more benefits to both peoples. The Paulson Institute will continue to offer wisdom and strength to the development of Sino-US relations, he said.
