Premier Li Keqiang had a phone call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Feb 9, to discuss the novel coronavirus prevention campaign.

Premier Li said the Chinese government is carrying out anti-epidemic work in a law-based and scientific way. The healthcare workers are exerting their efforts to cure infected patients. And key medical supplies and daily essentials are guaranteed.

People's safety and health are always the priority of the Chinese government. The epidemic prevention work stays transparent and responsible in China, and it is disclosed to the Chinese people and the international society in a timely manner.

The anti-epidemic measures taken by the Chinese government go above the standards set by the International Health Regulations and the suggestions of the World Health Organization, the Premier said.

The massive number of medics, unswervingly fighting at the front line of the anti-epidemic battlefield, demonstrate their dedication, professional integrity, and laudable responsibility. The Chinese government will protect their physical and mental health heart and soul.

The Chinese government and the Chinese people have the confidence and competence to wipe out the novel coronavirus.Merkel said Germany is paying close attention to the novel coronavirus outbreak in China. The Chinese government has taken resolute actions and won support from the Chinese people.

Germany has taken a cautious stance and strengthened coordination within the EU, she said, noting that it did not resort to excessive restrictions.

She extended gratitude for China’s support and help for German expats in China. The German side is willing to further cooperation in epidemic control and will continue to provide medical supplies to help China contain the spread of the virus.
