Water conservancy projects can help protect people’s safety, benefit their livelihoods and boost development in both short and long terms, Premier Li Keqiang said when inspecting the construction of the Dashiqiao reservoir in Tongnan district, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, on Aug 20.
When completed, the reservoir will prevent flood, regulate rainwater, and supply water to residents for daily use, production and agricultural irrigation.
The Premier said reservoirs played an important role after unprecedented floods hit Chongqing.
Premier Li urged construction workers to successfully deliver the project to safeguard people from floods, sustain farmland, and provide safe drinking water.
