BEIJING — People implicated in the leak of questions featured on the graduate school entrance exam have been arrested, according the Ministry of Education.

In late December, the ministry received a tipoff that questions in the written examination for graduate school were in the public domain.

The ministry called on exam administrators, colleges and universities to be vigilant as the practice of leaking questions made enrollment unfair, Hao Ping, vice minister of education, said on March 11 during an online interview on education and rule of law.

An amendment to the Criminal Law, which took effect on Nov 1, 2015, stipulates that those found guilty of organizing or facilitating cheating or hiring others to sit exams could be imprisoned for up to seven years.

In response to recent incidents of school violence, Hao said the ministry will work on regulations to prevent violence among students and physical punishments from teachers.

The ministry will also look into juvenile protection centers, and improve the mechanisms for safeguarding minors’ rights, added Hao.
