China will step up efforts to better regulate and facilitate the booming robotics sector, amid concern about possible repetitive production of low-end robots, said Xin Guobin, vice-minister of the Industry and Information Technology, on March 11.
“We will strengthen efforts to integrate resources and build a robotics innovation center to boost our research and development capability in high-end robots,” Xin said at a news conference during the annual session of National People’s Congress on March 11.
The ministry will roll out an industry-wide regulation as soon as possible to raise the entry threshold for industrial robots, in a move to avoid possible overcapacity of low-end products, he said.
