BEIJING — The number of fires reported in China during the National Day holiday dropped by nearly 10 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).
From Oct 1 to noon on Oct 8, 5,124 fires were reported nationwide, with no major fires among them, said a spokesperson with MPS’s fire department.
Before the holiday, the department sent 31 work teams to oversee local implementation of fire prevention measures.
In recent days, fire authorities across the country dispatched more than 65,000 inspection teams to help remove more than 710,000 fire risks.
As one of China’s two Golden Weeks, the National Day holiday has been extended by one day this year to include the Mid-Autumn Festival, which fell on Oct 4.
