NANJING — The 20th meeting of environment ministers of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) was held in East China’s city of Suzhou on June 23 and 24 to discuss future directions for environmental cooperation.

China has made breakthroughs in ecological and environmental protection, said Li Ganjie, minister of ecology and environment at the meeting.

China has also actively participated in global environmental governance and approved more than 30 conventions or protocols regarding ecology and environment, said Li.

The environment ministers of Japan and the ROK also gave keynote addresses at the event.

At a news briefing following the meeting, Li said the three ministers agreed to fully implement the spirit and initiatives of the leaders’ meeting of the three countries and pursue more practical cooperation.

The three ministers also reached consensus to strengthen exchanges and cooperation on implementing the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement on climate change as well as the organization of COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, said Li.

The three sides should be innovative and develop the “China-Japan-ROK plus” mode in environmental cooperation to share experience and achievements in this field with more countries, he added.
