BEIJING — China’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) called for restrengthening efforts to cope with Typhoon Mangkhut which landed on the country’s southern coast on the afternoon of Sept 16.
Mangkhut landed at 5 pm on the coast of Jiangmen city, South China’s Guangdong province, before moving northwest and entering into Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
The MOT mobilized transportation and maritime authorities along the routes that Mangkhut passed by and called for enhanced precautions against the super typhoon at a video conference on Sept 16.
Vice-Minister of Transport He Jianzhong called on relevant departments to take all-out contingency efforts, especially at major projects.
On Sunday, nearly all urban public transport services in coastal cities in Guangdong were stopped, and coastal highways were closed.
