BEIJING — The Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission have jointly released a work plan on the promotion of Chinese classics.
According to the plan, the country will establish Chinese classics education bases and hold activities such as classics reciting, writing, public speaking and exhibitions to popularize Chinese classics and boost its research and education.
The plan urges primary school and middle school teachers to participate in training sessions centering upon reciting, writing and teaching Chinese classics to students.
The plan also requires systemized lessons and textbooks of Chinese classics, emphasizing the need to develop graded textbooks as well as lessons fit for different areas.
The plan encourages the establishment of Chinese classics learning organizations and clubs to create a positive social vibe surrounding the reading of Chinese classics.
Ancient Chinese classics are deemed important parts of Chinese culture. In the guidelines on preserving and developing excellent traditional culture released by China’s central government in 2017, the learning of Chinese classics was listed as a major task.
