BEIJING — A national campaign to overhaul after-school training institutions and extracurricular classes is drawing to a close, the Ministry of Education said on Jan 9.
The ministry said it had dispatched work teams to six provinces to inspect the campaign progress, while authorizing 26 such regions to cross-check the campaign results.
The ministry has also called on regional governments to make accurate reports of their progress and be open to public supervision.
The campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Education in February 2018 amid the country’s efforts to ease academic pressure on primary and secondary school students. It aims to rectify after-school institutions providing students with lessons beyond their level or intensive exam-oriented training.
