BEIJING — The average daily trips made by passengers through China’s exit and entry frontier inspection stations are expected to reach 1.77 million during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) said on Feb 1.

The figure will be 8.9 percent more than that for the same period last year, the administration said.

It said outbound trips at major international airports in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are expected to peak on Feb 4 and 6 while the maximal inbound trips will be on Feb 9 and 10.

Luohu Port and Gongbei Port, land ports that link the Chinese mainland with Hong Kong and Macao respectively, are expected to see an average daily exit and entry trips of 273,000 and 358,000 respectively, the administration predicted.

The NIA asked exit and entry frontier inspection stations nationwide to ensure sufficient personnel and disclose relevant information in a timely manner to properly handle the holiday travel surges.

It also recommended that passengers avoid traveling at rush periods if possible.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Feb 5 this year.
