State councilor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun on Feb 18 asked police across China to be dedicated to ensuring a safe Spring Festival for the public.
Guo inspected security work in Beijing and visited some police officers who were still on duty on Chinese New Year’s Eve.
He visited several places, including a local police station and the command center of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, to check their personnel arrangements and emergency plans for potential risks such as a fire disaster.
Guo extended his warm greetings and best wishes to the police and firefighters who were still on duty. He also talked with public security volunteers and thanked them for their contribution to maintaining social stability.
“It is our shared wish, and also obligation to ensure the safety and reunion of all households during the festival,” Guo said.
He asked public security departments at all levels and all police officers to realize the significance of guaranteeing festive security and to do concrete work to stay aware of any possible risk.
To make sure that the public can celebrate Spring Festival in a happy and safe environment, Guo called for an all-out effort in various areas, including patrolling, traffic security, fire control and supervision of fireworks and firecrackers.
