BEIJING — Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun on June 26 vowed “zero tolerance” in the crack down on drug-related violations and crimes.

Guo, also head of China’s national anti-drug commission, made the remarks while attending activities in Beijing to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

He visited an anti-drug education center in Beijing, participated in promotions and talked with young people, residents and volunteers in some of the city’s communities.

Efforts to elevate anti-drug education among the public must be heightened so that they can identify drugs and reject relevant violations, he said.

Also on June 26, China launched an anti-drug information platform on WeChat, the popular instant messaging service.

Assistant Minister of Public Security Liu Yuejin said at the launch ceremony that using WeChat means the campaign will reach more people, especially the younger generation, and will improve anti-drug promotion and better serve the country’s combat against drug.

To raise public awareness, China has set up various platforms to support the anti-drug promotion campaign, including a newspaper, magazine, website and an account on Sina Weibo, China’s popular microblogging service.
