State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with visiting US Secretary of State John Kerry on Jan 27 in Beijing and exchanged views on the China-US relationship.

Yang said the two way relationship “has achieved important and positive progress in the past year”.

Mentioning the successful state visit by President Xi Jinping to the US last September, Yang said the two sides had further affirmed the right direction for the countries to build a new type of relationship.

In the new year, China and the US should fully implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, maintain close contact at various levels, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields in bilateral, regional and global contexts, Yang said.

The two sides also expected to “properly tackle divergence and sensitive issues in a constructive manner” to push for the continued development of China-US ties, Yang added.
