During a visit to The Hague, Netherlands, on April 18, State Councilor and Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun met with Ard van der Steur, minister of Security and Justice of the Netherlands, and Rob Wainwright, head of the European Union’s police agency Europol.

At the meeting, Guo exchanged views on strengthening law enforcement and security cooperation with the two officials.

He said that law enforcement cooperation between China and the Netherlands is an important part of the two countries’ comprehensive partnership cooperation, and China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the country, increase people-to-people exchanges, expand cooperation channels and promote the continuous development of a bilateral law enforcement and security cooperation.

Guo pointed out that increasing law enforcement cooperation between China and Europe has been effective. China is glad to join hands with Europe to speed up negotiations on strategic cooperation, perfect the communication mechanism, stress anti-terrorism issues, crack down on cross-border crimes and enhance cooperation in the fields of law enforcement and security, he said.

He also stressed protecting the legal rights of people from both sides, and creating a good environment for trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

Wainwright said that strengthening law enforcement and security cooperation is the wish of both sides, and it benefits the development of bilateral relations. Europe is glad to strengthen communication with China, and learn from each other to increase cooperation levels in anti-terrorism, anti drugs and crack down on organized crime, he said.
