Republic of Korea asked to work with China in bringing bilateral ties back on track

BEIJING — State Councilor Yang Jiechi on Nov 2 urged the Republic of Korea (ROK) to settle the issue of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system properly and work with China to bring the bilateral ties back to the normal track.

Yang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with a ROK delegation led by former Prime Minister Lee Soo-sung in Beijing. During the meeting, Yang introduced the achievements made at the 19th CPC National Congress.

Yang said China attaches great importance to its relations with the ROK and hoped that the ROK can work together with China for advancing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Lee extended congratulations on the achievements of the 19th National Congress of the CPC, saying that the ROK stands ready to make efforts in promoting exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
