NAYPYIDAW — State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi met with Myanmar President U Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on May 9 to discuss bilateral relations.
When meeting with U Win Myint, Zhao said that the proposals made by President Xi Jinping to foster a new type of international relations and to build a community with a shared future for mankind opened up a broader prospect for the development of China-Myanmar relations.
He said China attaches great importance to Sino-Myanmar relations and will make joint efforts with Myanmar to implement the important consensus made by leaders of the two sides, jointly promote the construction of the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields so as to continuously promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Zhao said that the China-Myanmar cooperation in law-enforcement and security areas is an important part of bilateral relations, adding that the Chinese side is willing to further strengthen the security cooperation on the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative with Myanmar and deepen pragmatic cooperation against drug-related crimes, human trafficking and telemarketing scams so as to jointly maintain the social and economic development as well as the security and stability of both countries.
For his part, U Win Myint thanked China for its precious support and selfless help to Myanmar.
The president said the friendship between Myanmar and China has been forged on a deep foundation, hoping that both sides would strengthen cooperation on project construction with the framework of China’s Belt and Road Initiative including the Myanmar-China economic corridor.
Myanmar and China should also boost cooperation in the sectors of law enforcement and security so as to achieve more positive results and bring more benefits to the two peoples, U Win Myint said.
When meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi, Zhao said the important consensus made by President Xi Jinping and Aung San Suu Kyi last year guide the way for the comprehensive strategic cooperation now and in the future.
Zhao said that the China is willing to implement the important consensus made by both leaders, to continuously enhance law-enforcement and security cooperation, so as to jointly maintain the security and development interests of both sides and make contribution to developing bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Aung San Suu Kyi thanked President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for attaching great importance to Sino-Myanmar relations and their support to the Myanmar peace process and economic and social development.
She hoped to further strengthen cooperation with China in various fields such as the construction of the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor as well as law-enforcement and security to promote continuous development of Myanmar-China relations.
