State councilor Xiao Jie urged efforts to transform government functions and further improve the business environment during an inspection trip to Zhejiang province from May 10 to 11.

Governments should continue to streamline administration, delegate powers to lower levels, and improve regulation and government services while promoting Internet Plus government services to inject vitality into social innovation and entrepreneurship, he said.

During his visit, Xiao visited several administrative centers in Zhejiang province and learned about the implementation of various measures that bring convenience to the people.

A symposium also was held to listen to opinions and suggestions from local governments, business leaders and the general public.

While recognizing the remarkable achievements made by the province, he urged local authorities to put a range of measures in place to meet people’s requirements in the new era.

Efforts should be made to strengthen data interconnection, integration and sharing, promote e-governance, and improve the efficiency of government services, he added.

He also required governments to accelerate project approval, cut taxes and fees, and step up supervision to help create a level playing field.
