State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Xiao Jie gave a speech during a meeting on energy and resources conservation and ecosystem protection by public institutions.
During the speech, he said public institutions, with their strong sense of responsibility and efficient action, have set an example in promoting “green development” to build an ecological civilization.
He said concrete results, including much lower average energy costs calculated by construction space and each staffer, have been achieved since the implementation of the regulation on public institutions’ energy saving a decade ago.
In the meantime, issues have been found during the implementation such as the unbalanced performance delivered by public institutions and insufficient functional role of the market, added Xiao.
He said that energy-saving tasks, mainly carried out in public institutions such as key government institutions, schools and hospitals, should focus on key projects including promoting green building with minimized energy consumption, enhancing water usage efficiency and facilitating a clean-energy heating system.
In addition to national public institutions, efforts in energy-saving and environmental protection such as green travel and garbage recycling should also be promoted nationwide to establish a friendly ecosystem, said Xiao.
He also stressed the role of reinforced efforts, responsibility, and innovative work mechanism in ensuring an on-time completion of all tasks.
