State Councilor Wang Yi expressed his appreciation over a consensus reached between top leaders of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea, while attending an event promoting Shandong province to foreign diplomatic missions in Beijing on Sept 20.

The Pyongyang joint declaration signed on Sept 19 by ROK’s President Moon Jae-in and DPRK’s leader Kim Jong Un is good news, a blessing for people on the Korean Peninsula and an aspiration of all countries, including China, Wang hailed, saying that China would extend the warmest congratulations and staunch support to it.

The improved DPRK-ROK relations will make great contributions to steer the peninsula away from threats of nuclear weapons and armed conflicts, Wang said, calling for all related parties to make joint efforts to bring about peace on the peninsula.

Wang said this year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement. As peace is hard-won, this opportunity should not be lost again.
