Anti-terrorism work should keep up with the new era, with a firm political stand and stronger capability, said State Councilor Zhao Kezhi on Sept 29.

Zhao, who is chief of a national anti-terrorism leading group, was speaking at a national counter-terrorism teleconference.

He asked authorities to take the initiative in counter-terrorism work, and maintain serious crackdowns and high-level deterrence over terrorism. The anti-terrorism system should enhance precaution and emergency management, with efforts focused on the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

In addition, international anti-terrorism cooperation should be intensified, and anti-terrorism work should be upgraded. The state councilor also asked for clear division of duties and solid implementation of policies.
