State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s presidential special envoy and coordinating minister of Maritime Affairs, and Anwar Ibrahim, former Malaysian deputy prime minister, separately on Oct 24 in Beijing.

Wang Yi welcomed Luhut in China as special envoy of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and expressed that China and Indonesia always understand, support and help each other.

He said China and Indonesia are natural partners in the construction of the Belt and Road and China is willing to integrate Belt and Road with Global Maritime Fulcrum, which will also promote the development of Indonesia’s Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor.

Luhut thanked the Chinese government for its help in Indonesia’s earthquake and disaster reconstruction and said that relations with China have always been a priority in its external relations.

Indonesia highly appreciates the positive progress made in the five years since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides and will strengthen cooperation with China in investment, industry, infrastructure, fisheries, and human resources, he added.

He also stressed that the two sides should take the opportunity of the signing of the cooperation agreement on jointly building Belt and Road and Global Maritime Fulcrum and the establishment of the joint committee on Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor.

During his meeting with Anwar, Wang Yi said Malaysia will achieve new achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and the new government.

He added that China attached great importance to its ties with Malaysia from a strategic and long-term perspective and that the two sides should strengthen cooperation in technology and innovation.

Anwar responded that China is the first country he visited after being elected to parliament and welcomed China to better play an important role in the economic and social development of Malaysia.

He also hailed that Malaysia admires China’s great achievements and is confident that China will achieve greater development.
