On April 17, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Alpha Barry of Burkina Faso in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Burkina Faso a year ago, under the care of President Xi Jinping and President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré of Burkina Faso, the relations between the two countries have seen a good start and smooth development, with bilateral practical cooperation yielding remarkable early harvests. As long as the two sides trust and support each other, China-Burkina Faso relations can withstand any tests and open up brighter prospects. The Chinese side firmly supports Burkina Faso’s development path in line with its own conditions and efforts of Burkina Faso’s government to safeguard national security, develop economy, and improve people’s livelihood. China is willing to work together with the Burkina Faso side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and strengthen cooperation within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Both sides should deepen political mutual trust, support each other on issues involving respective core interests and major concerns, expand cooperation in fields such as trade, agriculture, and manufacturing to improve people’s livelihood in Burkina Faso in a more effective manner, strengthen collaboration in international and regional affairs, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries, including African countries.

Alpha Barry noted that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between Burkina Faso and China, bilateral relations have seen high-quality development, with frequent high-level exchanges, and the increasingly deepened brotherhood between the two peoples. Facts have proved that the strategic decision made by the Burkina Faso side to resume diplomatic relations with China a year ago is completely correct. The Burkina Faso side will firmly adhere to the one-China policy. Extending gratitude to the Chinese side for its support and assistance in safeguarding national security and promoting economic development in Burkina Faso, the Burkina Faso side is willing to work with the Chinese side to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields. The Burkina Faso side highly appreciates the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by the Chinese side and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China under its framework.
