Vice-premier stresses flood control

BEIJING — As China enters the flood season, the country should be on high alert for river floods and disasters including mountain torrents and landslides, Vice-Premier Wang Yang said on July 7.

China should intensify meteorological and hydrologic monitoring and early warning for disasters, Wang said at a meeting of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

The country should also give full play to the role of water conservancy projects in disaster relief, enhance patrols of dikes, reservoirs and hydropower stations, and improve emergency plans for resident evacuation, Wang added.
