Vice-premier meets with state leaders in Luxembourg

Vice-Premier Ma Kai met with Luxembourg’s Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel on Oct 19 during his official visit to the nation.

“China attaches great importance to the long friendship with Luxembourg, and sees it as an important partner in the European Union (EU),” said Ma. And he spoke highly of the bilateral cooperation in areas such as finance, iron and steel, and aviation.

Ma called for strengthened high-level communication and further innovation cooperation between the two sides, with the finance sector as priority.

Grand Duke Henri emphasized that China has played a vital role in enhancing Luxembourg’s leading position in the international financial market and expressed Luxembourg’s willingness to further promote bilateral relations.

The year 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of China-Luxembourg diplomatic ties, Bettel said, and Luxembourg is willing to use it as an opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation in trade and tourism and work on solving global issues together, such as steel overcapacity, through win-win cooperation.

In addition, the vice-premier introduced the 6th China-EU High-Level Economic and Trade Dialogue and the stable and good momentum of the Chinese economy during the meeting.
