Vice-Premier Wang Yang chaired the 13th plenary session of the State Council Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation and Development on Nov 10 in Beijing.

The meeting heard the report on poverty alleviation work inspection and laid out work for the next stage. Wang, also head of the State Council Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation and Development, said efforts should be made to ensure full implementation of the central government’s policies to fight poverty.

The State Council’s poverty reduction group carried out an inspection tour on poverty alleviation tasks recently. The group is comprised of 20 supervision groups and 2 inspection groups, which were dispatched to 22 Central and Western provinces and regions.

They researched and studied local poverty alleviation work through field researches such as random check, door-to-door visit and one on one talk. Through the field research, they were able to understand the implementation of the poverty alleviation measures released by the central government, make conclusions regarding good practices and look for outstanding issues.

Wang commended the preliminary work and emphasized inspection and supervision should play an important role in pushing the poverty reduction work, outlining innovative measures and promoting good experiences.

Concerning the problems in the area of poverty alleviation, such as formalism and inaccurate and unpractical operation, efforts should be made to find solutions, he said.

Meanwhile, the next stage of poverty reduction work should also be planned well with targeted areas and groups and major tasks. Sustainable poverty reduction measures, such as developing industries and expanding employment, should be strengthened, said the vice-premier.
