Vice-Premier Liu Yandong, on an inspection trip to Shanghai on Nov 22, stressed science and technology (S&T) innovation, calling for implementing an innovation-driven development strategy to build a globally influential S&T innovation center in Shanghai.
She examined an ultra-intense and ultra-short laser test device at the Zhangjiang national comprehensive science center, heard some research reports and visited Shanghai Tech University.
Setting up a national innovation center in Shanghai is a national strategy, and it is also a key part of China’s innovation-driven development strategy and development of S&T innovation, said the vice-premier.
She stressed four aspects in making breakthroughs in building an innovation center: make overall arrangements, implement major projects, enhance innovation ability, and improve policy support.
Key facilities in S&T are important carriers of Zhangjiang’s science center, and they are also important platforms for high-level science research and international exchanges, Liu said, adding that in order to attract high-level talent, quality of the facilities should be able to support scientific progress and industry development.
She also urged a leading group of S&T innovation center and member units of the Zhangjiang national comprehensive science center to actively participate in the construction to explore new methods and gather experiences for national innovative reform.
