Vice-Premier Ma Kai, speaking at a symposium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, stressed that industrial design as a type of new productivity is an important part of innovation-driven strategy. It is also the core competitiveness for future industries.

Ma was in the province to investigate the development of the industrial design industry.

The vice-premier said China’s industrial design industry grew rapidly in the past few years. However, there are still gaps compared with some countries’ advanced level. Therefore, accelerating the development of the industrial design industry is an urgent task, Ma said.

Ma stressed enhancing leadership and policy support, improving the environment for the development of industrial design, and being well planned and guided. He also called for improvements in the design and innovation system and the industrial development standard. Public service platform and quality of talent team should also be improved, and international communication and cooperation should be strengthened, he added.
