Vice-Premier Liu Yandong urged education authorities to improve the quality of textbook compiling while attending the first plenary meeting of National Textbook Committee in Beijing on July 4.

Textbook compiling is a strategic and fundamental project concerning future development, said Liu, asking the committee to strengthen textbook management and improve textbook quality by deepening reform.

Liu, as head of the committee, hoped that the organization could fulfill its responsibilities in supervising, coordinating and guiding the compilation of textbooks.

The National Textbook Committee, which is composed of senior experts of various fields and officials from related departments, is the first of its kind in China.
