Vice-Premier Liu Yandong and State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun addressed a teleconference on cultural relics protection on July 25 in Beijing.

Meeting attendees called for effective protection of cultural relics that Chinese ancestors have left behind, cracking down on crimes concerning cultural relics and a national examination of cultural relic safety.

A comprehensive protection system should be developed, featuring not only human efforts but also technology. Cultural relics should be used to educate citizens so that their awareness of relic protection can be enhanced and their knowledge of Chinese civilization can be enriched.

A system should also be enacted to ensure local governments, departments and institutions that manage and use the relics are held accountable.
