Vice-Premier Liu Yandong, on a recent inspection trip to Tibet autonomous region, urged speeding up the local science, education, culture and health development and improving public services to support the long-term development of the area.

She visited a research base of the National Astronomical Observatories attached to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and inspected a construction site of an experiment platform, located 5,250 meters above sea level.

The vice-premier expressed her appreciation for key scientific achievements on quantum teleportation experiments made by the scientists there. She urged them to take advantage of local geographical and altitude advantages to strengthen the fundamental research in cutting-edge technology and grasp the technological advantages.

She called for building a team of high-skilled scientific talent, achieving more advanced achievements in astronomy research, physical experiments and space exploration to increase the national competitiveness in science and technology innovation.

While visiting the Institutes of Tibetan Plateau Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the vice-premier stressed the importance of cross-field research, and urged strengthening scientific research in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to provide scientific and technological support for protecting the region’s ecological environment.

She also visited the People’s Hospital of Tibet Autonomous Region, and chaired a symposium on medical development in Tibet.

Liu praised the medical work in Tibet, and urged developing remote medical treatment and strengthening the health education of local people. The local government should support the lives and health of the people who are assisting local medical development, she said.

The vice-premier also visited a vocational middle school in Lhasa, capital of Tibet autonomous region, and inspected the workshops for making Tibetan traditional medicine, clothes and thangka paintings.

For the prosperous development of Tibet, education is the basis, and talent are the key points, and the government should try to improve education at all levels to cultivate talent for building a more beautiful Tibet, said Liu.

She also viewed the work on protection of cultural relics and religious work in Tibet.
